A councillor has demanded answers from the Health Service Executive on why a Laois village's health centre has remained closed since the Covid pandemic eased.

Cllr Barry Walsh tabled a motion to the February meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.

He wants the council to  ask the HSE for an update regarding  if or when Ballinakill health centre will reopen.

“I have had a  couple of enquiries from residents in Ballinakill. It is not open since Covid.

“It can be difficult for some people to get into the main towns.

“A lot of areas would benefit if it was  open for  one day a week.

“I'd be pushing for the HSE to reopen it.

“I hope we get a response from the HSE,” Cllr Walsh said.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly seconded the motion.

“Any service that is taken away from any area is not good. I look forward to the response from the HSE, “ he said.

Laois County Council will now send a letter to the HSE with the query.
