Laois Hockey Club's second team secures promotion to Division 10

The Laois Hockey Club’s second team travelled to Portrane on Saturday, March 9 for their final league match of the season. Portrane have been hot on our heels all season in the league and had recently beaten us in the semi-final of the cup so it was always going to be a close game.

Laois got off to a good start and Shauna Walsh got a lovely goal shortly before the end of the first quarter to settle the team. Portrane kept the pressure on and Laois had to work hard to keep them out. There were some great moves from Faye Delaney, Grace Cunningham and Yvonne Hargroves who worked tirelessly in midfield and Laois were unlucky not to add to the scoreboard. Lily Van Den Bergh had a super game in defence.

Laois finished with a 1-0 win to remain unbeaten in the league this season. The win secures promotion to Division 10 next year. Well done to all the younger girls who really stepped up yesterday when needed. A great way to finish off a super season. The club looks forward to celebrating in style at the LHC fundraising dinner dance on Saturday, April 13 in the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel.
