Laois man admits not having insurance for a fourth time

The man appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A man has been convicted of not having insurance for the fourth time.
Joseph Delaney(39) of 25 Balladine Drive, Abbeyleix, pleaded guilty to not having insurance or a licence at Balladine Drive on February 1, 2025.
Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that her client was pleading guilty. She said the court had the benefit of a probation report which revealed the man was at low risk of reoffending. She said there was a plea of guilty and “he was found suitable for community service”.
Judge Andrew Cody said the defendant had 32 previous convictions. He noted it was the fourth conviction for no insurance and the fourth conviction for no driving licence.
Judge Cody sentenced the man to three months suspended for two years for not having insurance and he ordered that he do 40 hours community service in lieu of one month in prison for driving without a licence.
