More than €2,000 was raised from two events in Portarlington this summer for the vital care funded by Laois Hospice.

A coffee morning in aid of the Laois Hospice, held at the home of Christy and Mary Dunne, Canal Road Portarlington on Tuesday, June 27, proved to be a huge success.

It was supported by the family and friends of the Dunne family. Christy & Mary lost their 37-year-old daughter Aine to Cancer eight years ago. Aine left behind her parents, sister Denise, husband Simon and baby daughter Sadhbh.placeholder image

The Dunne family were happy to be able to hand over a cheque for €1,600 to the Laois Hospice.

Mary would like to thank everyone who called to the coffee morning and donated, and to the people who could not be there, and sent donations. It was very much appreciated.

Meanwhile, the patrons of the Hawthorn Bar in Port have also helped Laois Hospice. The pub's proprietor, Ann O'Brien, presented a cheque for €1,000 to Mary Delaney, Chairperson, Laois Hospice which was the proceeds of a customer raffle.

Mary Finlay and Irene Murray were also present at the presentation which was attended by customers of The Hawthorn Lounge.
