A Laois Senator has urged people to be vigilant after she saw a man in her car the driveway of her home in Portlaoise on Sunday evening.
Sinn Fein Senator Maria McCormack said she got the “fright of my life” when she looked out her window and saw a man in her car outside her home in a Portlaoise estate on the evening of Sunday, October 11 at 8.15pm.
“The car was parked in my driveway in front of my own sitting room window at eight in the evening,” said Sen McCormack. She said there were plenty of people around at the time.
She said the man ran when she came out of her house and she wanted “just to warn people to be vigilant. It can happen on your own property at any time of the day,” she said.
Sen McCormack posted a message on social media warning people to remain vigilant.
“A reminder to everyone to double-check that your cars are locked and never leave anything valuable inside, even if you’re only leaving the car for a few minutes,” she wrote.
“It’s frightening how brazen some people can be, especially at that time of the evening.
Please be vigilant and keep an eye out for your neighbours too. Stay safe everyone!” she concluded.
The Leinster Express/Laois Live has contacted the gardai who confirmed the matter is under investigation.
