Laois songwriting competition could find the Irish Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran

Professional studio recording prize offered by Portarlington Art Collective
The future Irish Taylor Swift or Ed Sheeran could get the break they've been waiting for, thanks to a Laois group.
The Portarlington artists network, Port Art Collective has launched an exciting singer songwriter competition and the top prize is a day in a professional studio recording the winner's own song.
The Portsounds open mic has already been running for over a year, based in the Anvil Inn, but they are upping the ante with their new competition, Making Tracks.

"It is a platform that encourages the performance of original music. Indeed it has given a platform to many budding original artists to showcase their songs, some of which have gone on to play Forest Fest," he said.
"We are now running an original song competition for artists from within the county and outside where the winner wins the chance to have their song recorded in a professional recording studio.
"We hope to unearth a few more local acts by doing so," he said.
Eoghan Coffey is proprietor at The Anvil Inn.
"We've been hosting open mic nights for the last year and following on from that and knowing the talent that is in the Midlands, we thought it was obvious that the next step was to host an original song competition.
“We’re encouraging solos, duos and all bands to enter this competition as it’s a great chance for them to win a recording of their song and get exposure. And who knows we might find the next Ed Sheeran,” Eoghan said.
To enter all you have to do is register your interest with Portsounds either by messaging the Facebook page, email or simply by turning up to the open mic on Friday, February 23 in The Anvil Inn Portarlington.
Entrants must perform up to two songs live, and they must be original songs. The competition will commence in March and it is only €10 to enter. Register by February 23.
