Laois TD welcomes increased housing grants for older people and those with a disability

Good news for those who need support to adapt their homes so that they can live comfortably

Increased funding in housing grants for older people and those with a disability has been welcomed by Laois TD Séan Fleming.

"This is very welcome news for older people and people with disabilities in Laois, who need support to adapt their homes so that they can live comfortably," said Deputy Fleming.

"With rising costs of building materials and works, it is important that the Government increases these grants to cover costs."

The additional funding has been made possible because of the commencement of revised Government Housing Adaptation Grants of up to €40,000 for older people and those with a disability.

Key changes include:

An increase in the maximum level of Housing Adaption Grant for Disabled People to €40,000 (an increase of €10,000);An increase in the maximum level of the Housing Aid for Older People Grant to €10,700 (an increase of €2,700); andAn increase in the maximum level of the Mobility Aid Grant of €8,000 (an increase of €2,000).  "The improvements in this Government grant include an increase in the grant limits of over 30% and an increase of 25% in the income thresholds for eligibility," said Deputy Fleming.

"The Housing Adaptation Grant makes a real difference to people’s lives, whether it’s a new disability wetroom or new windows and doors for older people.

"I encourage Laois County Council to now work to deliver the maximum amount and maximum number of grants to people in the County who need them."
