Portlaoise choir to promote well-being, integration, literacy and inclusion

Have you ever wanted to test out your singing voice? Well here's your chance! A new community choir is being set up in Portlaoise.

Music Generation Laois in partnership with Portlaoise Family Resource Centre, Laois and Offaly ETB Community Education and Age Friendly Laois, Laois County Council are setting up the new pilot project which will run over an eight week period.

An open invitation is being extended to all communities in the town and surrounding areas to join.

The aim of the choir is to promote well-being, integration, literacy and inclusion, particularly among newer communities to Portlaoise, who will be most welcome.

A team of MGL Musician Educators, led by Nuala Kelly and James O' Connor Music will facilitate the sessions, with a focus on enjoyable and easy-to-sing repertoire from a wide range of musical genres.

The choir is open to age 16+ with no upper age limit and will take place in two locations, giving the option to attend either a day or evening session.

There will be a session at Laois Music Centre, Church Avenue, Portlaoise (R32Y074) commencing Tuesday, May 21 from 7pm to 8.30pm.

Meanwhile sessions at Portlaoise Family Resource Centre, Knockmay, Portlaoise (R32C7DD) will commence Wednesday, May 29 at 11am to 12.30pm.

This pilot phase will culminate in a performance mid-July. Anyone interested in getting involved can sign up here.
