Laois youths create podcast to fight discrimination

A group of young people in Laois are making their voices heard on discrimination, in a new podcast.
Laois Comhairle na nÓg will release their first podcast this October that highlights three types of discrimination, and the negative effect they have on young people.
LCNN Chairperson is Ava Foley.
“Explaining our views on the topic of discrimination, and to be able to have special guests speak their options is amazing. From what we as a comhairle have achieved this year is amazing,” she said.
Ava explained why they will focus on discrimination.
“At the last Youth Conference AGM we held a vote to decide CNN’s topic of discussion for this year. The young people of Laois decided that this year we would focus on Discrimination.
“We decided that as Discrimination is such a broad issue, we would not have the capacity to cover it all effectively and thoroughly. However, we still wanted to stick with the youths of Laois’s decision, so we made the executive decision to narrow the topic of discussion and focus on three types of discrimination. We opened the choice of two of these types to the young people, and we as a Comhairle, decided upon the final type.

“Our CNN decided that we should release a podcast to raise awareness, which will be easy for anyone to access, and target the young people of Laois. The podcast is a careful blend of humor, and somberness, with some deeply moving personal stories and accounts.
“Over our podcast, we explore our chosen topics of discrimination, listen to our own CNN members telling their stories, and it will even feature some special guests, giving personal accounts of their experiences with discrimination.
“The young people of Laois spoke, and we listened. We would really appreciate it if you could listen too," Ava said.
As the chairperson of Laois CNN and on behalf of Laois CNN team we say go raibh maith agat, agus slain go bfhoill, to all involved in creating the podcast. It has been a very fulfilling year for us and I could not be happier on how this year has gone," she added.
