The man appeared before a sitting of Portlaoise District Court
A man appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a man by putting his finger between the cheeks of the other man’s buttocks.
The man (32), who can’t be identified due to reporting restrictions, is accused of assaulting the man in Laois on November 13, 2025.
Detective Garda Conor Egan gave evidence of arresting and charging the defendant. He said the man made no reply when the charge was put to him.
He said the incident occurred at 5.20pm when the accused is alleged to have walked behind the injured party and “put his finger between the cheeks of the buttocks” at a location in Laois.
Det Egan requested reporting restrictions in relation to the identity of the complainant in the case.
Judge Gubbins imposed reporting restrictions preventing the naming of either the accused or the complainant in the case.
Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald requested a disclosure order and he requested legal aid. “My client is anxious that CCTV footage be disclosed as part of the disclosure,” he said.
Judge Gubbins granted legal aid, ordered disclosure and adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on November 2.
