Man allegedly stole ten bottles of whiskey from Laois shop

The man failed to appear at a sitting of Portlaoise District Court
A man who allegedly stole ten bottles of whiskey from Lidl in Laois failed to appear in court.
Damian Prokopowicz (28) of No Fixed Abode is accused of stealing ten bottles of whiskey valued at €419.19 from Lidl in Portlaoise on April 3, 2026.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant, who wasn’t present, was of No Fixed Abode and he believed a bench warrant was appropriate in the case.
Judge Edward Carroll said he was “cautious” about issuing a warrant as the man had no legal representation and may have been represented if the solicitors protest in relation to legal fees wasn’t ongoing.
Sgt Kirby said in that case a short adjournment might be more appropriate.
Judge Carroll then adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on July 9.
