A man was arrested while walking in the middle of the Mountmellick Road in Portlaoise in dense fog at 5.25am.

Pavel Burlacu, 35, of 5 Bishops Orchard, Tyrrelstown, Mulhuddart, Dublin was arrested on the Mountmellick Road at 5.25am on April 27, 2022.

Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the man was walking in the middle of the road during dense fog. He was highly intoxicated and slurring his words and had no previous convictions, said Sgt Kirby.

“He stated he was drinking all night and wanted to walk to Tullamore to meet a male to buy a caravan,” said Sgt Kirby. He told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that a fine was issued but it went unpaid.

Judge Andrew Cody fined the man €250 and gave him three months to pay.
