Told her he would break the windows of her home

A MAN who had 134 previous convictions faced charges of assault causing harm at last week's district court.

At 11.25pm on March 29, 2022 the injured party was walking along Daingean road in Tullamore, when she met Richard McCann (37), Cluain Darach, Tullamore who assaulted her and told her he would break the windows of her home. He also told her not to ring the Gardai.

Richard McCann had appeared at Cloverhill District Court on November 3 last on ten matters including theft, possession of stolen property, trespass entering a building with intent to commit an offence.

His barrister said Mr McCann acknowledged the seriousness of the offences. He is currently on remand awaiting sentence. He has issues with drugs and is trying to turn over a new leaf.

Judge Cody noted that the defendant had 134 previous convictions and had collected 18 more convictions since.

He said it was a dreadful attack on the woman. He sentenced Richard McCann to 12 months in prison.

He set recognisance on his own bond of €100 with an independent surety of €2,000 if he wishes to appeal. He is not to commit any other offences and be of good behaviour.
