Minister to open Portlaoise library amid Laois town 'roadshow'

The new Laois county library in Portlaoise is to be officially opened by the same Minister who turned the sod on it three years ago.
The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys turned the sod to start the construction of the €7 million library back in 2020, and she is returning to cut the ribbon next Monday morning, July 17.
Minister Humphreys is spending the day in Laois, visiting not just Portlaoise but four other towns and rural amenities to perform a string of official openings.
She will start off in Mountmellick, to unveil a plaque in Mountmellick Arts Centre which was refurbished with the help of a grant from the Town & Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS).
Then after her Portlaoise stop, she will travel to Carrigmeal Woodland Walks, the brainchild of retired councillor James Deegan, now a public nature amenity. The works were part funded by an Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) grant.
Timahoe Heritage Centre is the next stop, for another official opening and plaque unveiling, as the famed round tower and museum also received TVRS funding.
Finally at 4.15pm Minister Humpreys will arrive in Portarlington, to formally launch the refurbishment project of its iconic Market House, which has been bought by Laois County Council and is set to be restored as a community meeting place.
