New footpath wanted before Government Minister visits Laois town

Errill housing estate has new houses but no footpath to village
A Laois councillor is asking for a new footpath to be laid in time for a Minister's visit this month.
St Kieran's Park housing estate in Errill village has been expanded by 14 new houses.
Fine Gael Cllr John King wants the new footpath installed so that local people can walk safely to the village shop.
"The new houses are complete, now there are 28 houses. All you see outside is a green hedge and green grass. The Minister is coming in April. We don't want to have the Minister and we haven't safety measures put in," he said.
Cllr King said that the landowner who owns the hedge has indicated willingness to allow the council to replace it with "a path and a little wall".
"We could be talking 100 people living there. It is a must because there is a shop in the village," he said.
He tabled a motion to the March meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District, in which he asks Laois County Council to treat the provision of a new footpath as urgent.
In response, the area engineer said that a site meeting will take place to discuss it.
