A new Laois business opened on Wednesday creating 22 jobs, but the day has been marred by parking tickets according to the proprietor.

David Finn who owns The Style Bar in Portlaoise as well as Newbridge, has opened a skin treatment clinic in Lyster Square Portlaoise.

While the unit was being renovated this month, he had posted repeat images of parking tickets, in complaint to Laois County Council.

The carpark is covered under parking bye-laws which allow the first 45 minutes free, but no longer than two hours allowed for paid parking.

On opening day, Mr Finn shared a photo of another parking fine.

"Opening day at the Skyn Clinic Portlaoise today. Ticket just expired but Laois County Council only to happy to pounce and provide us with some more fines as we try carry out the finishing touches. Ive made sure the wardens name has been blanked to ensure no MORE treats of legal action for posting these come from Laois Council. But all that said were delighted to be open and adding to your 22 strong workforce in Portlaoise town centre," he posted.

Earlier in March, he complained on social media that cars had been ticketed wrongly during snowy conditions.

"12 min remaining on a paid parking and still getting fined for having no ticket. Things have certainly escalated since our chat on Midlands 103. Laois County Council the traders and people of Portlaoise deserve far better from you. This long standing issue needs to be resolved!! Unfortunately we werent alone this morning. Tickets on multiple cars in Lyster square already as snow is covering windows wardens are running riot on an already poor day for traders due to the weather conditions."

Speaking to local radio this month, Mr Finn explained that some customers' hairdo's can take four hours, and described the situation as "farcical".

The Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, Cllr Thomasina Connell defended the parking system, and said that across the road beside council offices, there is all day parking available for €2.40.
