Planning permission is being sought to open a new off-licence in a Laois town.

The off-licence is planned on the main street in Mountmellick, in a premises close to a church and two fast food takeaway restaurants.

A planning application is going to be submitted to Laois County Council, for Number 2 Sarsfield Street, for a change of use from a ground floor office to a retail off licence.placeholder image

Applicant Patrick Boyle also seeks permission for internal alterations, new shopfront and new external signage, along with all associated site works.

The premises was the office of Nutgrove Sand & Gravel, a local quarry company.

For many years prior to that, it served as a local cobbler's workshop.

The application will be soon placed on the Laois County Council planning website for public viewing and submissions.
