Eimear Corri recognised for rugby and medical excellence

A distinguished celebration of Irish medical graduates who have represented Ireland on the rugby field took place on Thursday, January 30, at the Royal College of Physicians. The event paid tribute to the doctors who balanced their careers in medicine with the honour of playing international rugby over the past 150 years.

Among those recognised was Portlaoise’s own Eimear Corri, who has made her mark in both rugby and medicine. A product of Portlaoise RFC and Blackrock College RFC, Corri was one of the women’s players celebrated at the prestigious gathering.

Educated at Scoil Chríost Rí, Dublin City University (DCU), and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Corri has excelled both academically and athletically, representing Ireland on the rugby field while pursuing a demanding career in medicine. She made her Senior Irish debut against Kazakhstan in Dubai in 2023.

The event was attended by several former Irish internationals, particularly from the men’s teams, who have contributed to both rugby and the medical profession.

Corri’s inclusion highlights the growing recognition of women’s rugby and the increasing presence of female athletes in the medical field.
