Residents need the council’s help to maintain a lane they use that requires drainage works.

Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, made the call when he tabled a motion calling on Laois County Council to address the drainage and road safety issues at the junction of the R440 and Rossalee Lane, Mountrath.

Cllr Bergin said he had met people on the lane which he said is very long and is an access route to forestry.

He said the residents, some of whom are in Camross Parish, look after it very well but work is needed and he believes council staff could complete job.

Cllr James Kelly, Independent, supported the motion saying anything that would take water off the road would be welcome.

Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.

“A meeting will be arranged with the Elected Member at this location to establish the issues of concern and identify remedial works,” he said.

The issue was raised at the September meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
