The contribution and support to Laois by a recently retired RTÉ newsreader is to be formally recognised by Laois County Council.

The RTÉ 9 O'clock News anchor, journalist Eileen Dunne announced her retirement during November at the end of the nightly news broadcast, ending a 42 year career. See link to video below.

There was warm praise for her loyalty to her father's home county, at the November meeting of Laois County Council.

Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald has proposed that a letter be sent Ms Dunne to wish her well in her retirement.

"Her father Mick was from Clonaslee. She was so good to Laois. So many charitable events, she was hugely involved in the Cuisle Centre. I would like a card sent to acknowledge that and wish her well in her retirement from the councillors and staff of Laois County Council," she said.
