Trees grown on property tangled with the cables

Trees need to be cut back at a house in Clonaselee because they are threatening power lines and are a road safety risk, a councillor has insisted.

Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, raised the issue with the Laois County Council at a meeting.  He called on the local authority to address the dangerous overhanging trees beside the house of a deceased person at Brocka, Clonaslee. He said he had visited the location.

“There is an ESB line going straight through the treeline,” he said.

His expertise is needed to cut back the trees due to the danger posed by the electricity cables.

He said there is a road safety issue as the trees overhang the road that’s used by residents, trucks and vans.

“The location in question will be visited and ownership of the trees established. Following assessment/  confirmation of the hazard posed to users of the public road the relevant landowner will be contacted to take action as required,” he said.

The issue was raised at the Borris-in-Ossory Moutmellick Municipal District meeting.
