Burglars stole over €6,000 worth of tools from a married couple who are building a house in Laois.

Thieves smashed their way through the glass door of the new house in Camross and stole the tools between 9.30pm on the night of Wednesday, May 6 and 10am on the morning of Thursday, May 7.

The tools, which included DeWalt drills, saws, nail guns and impact drivers, were taken from a house which is being built by a couple.

Mark O’Connor posted an appeal on social media following the burglary.

“Unfortunately, a large number of my tools were stolen last night in the Camross area between 9.30pm - 10.00am.”  He posted a list of the tools which had been stolen from the property.

They include: two 18V DeWalt skill saws,  two 18V DeWalt combi drills, an 18V DeWalt 16 gauge 2nd fix nail gun, 18V DeWalt multi-tool,  18V DeWalt SDS drill, a  DeWalt Redline laser,  an Einhell 18V Palm Router, a 220v Track Saw, a 10.8V DeWalt combi drill, battery and charger, a 10.8V DeWalt impact driver, battery and charger, five DeWalt batteries, a Pro Plus chainsaw, a Honda 3.5kva Generator and a 220V Bosch Palm Sander.

Orla Dollard O’Connor said “we are currently doing a self build and the tools were stored in the new house. Mark works up there every evening when he’s home from work so all the tools stolen were things he uses day-to-day for work and then for doing stuff around the new house.”

She said some of the tools were brand new and had never been used. The burglary was reported to Gardaí in Abbeyleix.
