Trapped residents see red over Laois traffic lights

The right of residents to entry and exit their home onto the road in Mountmellick is being impeded by traffic lights in the town.
So claimed Cllr Paddy Bracken, Fianna Fáil, when he called on the council to move the lights at a recent meeting with Laois County Council officials.
He tabled a motion calling on the local authority to move the traffic lights at the town side of the bridge at Manor Road, Mountmellick because is causing difficulties for residents living at this location.
“This is causing great concern to the residents. They have a right to get in and out of their own home and this is impeding that. It is becoming busier and busier and people do not have the patience to allow the residents in or out of their property,” he said.
Mr. James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer, Road Design Office, replied in writing.
The road design office will investigate the issue at this location and establish if relocation of the traffic signals is appropriate and/or if an alternative solution can be identified,” he said.
The issue was raised at the recent Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
