Laois Council fixing bridges in Rathdowney area

A damaged wall on the Conoboro Bridge Rathdowney is fixed with work on another bridge used to bring turf from bogs in the area in the pipeline.

So it emerged at a recent meeting in County Hall Portlaoise, where Cllr John King of Fine Gael tabled a motion on the 'extremely busy' Conoboro bridge.

He informed the meeting that the work had already been completed and complimented Laois County Council staff for their work. He asked also about the Clonmeen Bridge. MORE BELOW PICTURE.placeholder image

James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer in the council’s Roads section, said tenders were invited for the Clonmeen Bridge and are being evaluated.

He told Cllr King that it would be August before the repairs could commence.

Cllr King said he wanted to be able to inform local people drawing turf that the bridge would be repaired.

The issue was raised at the July meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District.
