Woman admits assault in Laois nightclub
A guilty plea was entered at Portlaoise District Court
A woman admitted assaulting another woman in a nightclub in Portlaoise five years ago.
Maeve Burke (27) with an address at 13 Cherrygarth, Portlaoise was accused of assault at Soho nightclub, Portlaoise on July 28, 2019.
Anne Doyle BL said her client, who wasn’t present, was entering a guilty plea in the matter.
Inspector Ruth Wall said the injured party had reported the incident to Portlaoise Garda Station.
She said the injured party told Gardaí “Maeve Burke attacked her by punching her and scratching her a number of times.”
Inspector Wall told the sitting of Portlaoise District Court that gadaí had obtained CCTV from the night.
“We do have photographs and the injured party is in court,” she told Judge Susan Fay.
She said the defendant had eight previous convictions.
Judge Fay said she would note the guilty plea and allow some time for the injured party to prepare a victim impact statement.
She adjourned the case back to Portlaoise District Court on March 25 for a victim impact statement.
