Road surfacing will take place on the old Dublin Road outside Portlaoise.

Fianna Fail Councillor Paschal McEvoy asked for work to be carried out on the road in a motion at a recent meeting.

He asked “that Laois County Council carry out an inspection on the old Dublin Road at Treacy’s Cross as it is in bad repair.”

In response, Senior Executive Engineer Philip McVeigh said “Laois County Council has inspected this section of the R445 and is arranging to carry out road surfacing works under the 2023 roads programme.”

“It’s in bad repair for about a mile and it needs to be resurfaced,” said Cllr McEvoy.

Fine Gael Cllr PJ Kelly seconded the motion and said he was delighted the work was confirmed to go ahead.

“It is right from Treacy’s Cross to the Wheel Inn,” said Cllr Kelly.

The motion was discussed at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
