'You're taking your life in your hands' bad bends on busy Portlaoise road

Sinn Féin Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley requests safety measures for Ballyfin Road
The traffic dangers on a busy road into Portlaoise are to be tackled by Laois County Council, after a local councillor described multiple problems with it.
Sinn Féin Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley said people are "taking their life in their hands" using the Ballyfin road.
"There is an awful lot of speed on the Ballyfin Road. I am looking to resurface the road from the junction of Boughlone and Pallas to Ross Lane. There are two bad bends, at Lewis's garage and at Adrian Greens.
"The two junctions are on very bad bends. Traffic coming from Mountrath is absolutely shocking busy," Cllr Dwane Stanley said.
She spoke while tabling a motion asking for road safety works on at the Ross Lane junction, to the February meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
She also asked them to "re-surface the sections that are in bad condition”.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald, Cathaoirleach of the district, seconded the motion.
"It is very dangerous, near Greens, we have all been asked about this," she said.
The Portlaoise MD Office is in the process of applying for funding to carry out safety improvement works at the Ross Lane junction.
The result of that application is expected soon, Cllr Dwane Stanley said.
