Bail granted to Longford man arrested on warrant for failing to attend court ... while on bail!

Robbie O’Haire from Springlawn, Longford, was yesterday granted bail after being arrested on foot of a warrant. The warrant was issued after he recently failed to attend Longford District Court while on bail.
A man who was arrested on foot of a bench warrant after he failed to turn up for court, has again been released on bail following a special sitting of Longford District Court and Longford Circuit Court yesterday, Sunday November 1.
45 year old Robbie O’Haire of Springlawn, Longford, currently faces charges in relation to a series of offences concerning trespassing and theft, as well as a charge of having unlawfully obstructed a Garda during the course of his duty.
He was released on bail with the order that he return to court tomorrow, Tuesday November 3, where Gardaí will seek to now revoke his bail.
The presiding Judge chose to grant bail to the accused as he did not have legal representation in court due to the ongoing legal aid strike.
The most recent bench warrant for his arrest had been issued at the October 27 sitting of Longford District Court after he failed to turn up for a second time for a scheduled court appearance. O’Haire was on bail at the time.
O’Haire currently faces multiple charges. The first arose from an incident on September 19 in which Garda David Gerrity was conducting a search of O’Haire under the Misuse of Drugs Acts. It is alleged that as the search was being carried out, O’Haire took an item from his pocket and swallowed it.
The most recent charges against him arise from October 14 where he is alleged to have entered the curtilage of four buildings - three in Legion Terrace, Longford town and one in Farranyoogan - as a trespasser “in circumstances giving rise to reasonable inference that such presence was with intent to commit an offence.”
O’Haire also faces a charge relating to the theft of a silver gents Lorus watch to the value of €100 and Sony ear buds worth €70 from an address in Legion Terrace.
He faces two charges of entering vehicles parked outside homes in Legion Terrace, and a third charge of having attempted to enter a vehicle that was parked outside a home in Western Park.
He is listed to appear before Longford District Court tomorrow, Tuesday November 3.
