Concerns raised over South Longford GP clinic by local TD and Senator

Longford TD Micheál Carrigy and local Fianna Fáil Senator Joe Flaherty separately said concerns about the clinic’s service provision are continuing.
Two Longford Oireachtas members have reiterated their concerns regarding the provision of services at the Lanesboro GP Clinic.
Longford TD Micheál Carrigy and local Fianna Fáil Senator Joe Flaherty have spoken out in recent days about the situation.
Dr Syed Ali retired in recent months after serving Lanesboro and Longford town for many years and his GP clinic was then taken over Dr David Booth serving both areas.

Fine Gael Deputy Carrigy said, “Concerns about the clinic’s service provision continue to be raised.
“I have raised these issues directly with the HSE and have received assurances that the services outlined in the clinic’s contract will be maintained.”
Deputy Carrigy said it is concerning that these issues continue to arise.
“I encourage anyone experiencing difficulties to continue highlighting them, and I urge both the HSE and the service provider to ensure all contractual commitments are fully met.
“Access to healthcare services within local communities is vital, and I will continue to advocate to ensure these services are protected and maintained.”
Senator Joe Flaherty raised the issue again under parliamentary privilege in the Seanad.
He said ‘Dr Booth has taken over a GMS contract for two surgeries’ in county Longford servicing Lanesboro and Longford town.
"It's now very clear in Lanesboro that there is a concerted effort to close the Lanesboro surgery and maintain a five day walk-in service in Longford town.”
