Construction set to begin on major Longford school extension

Construction is set to begin on a major Longford national school extension.
Longford / Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty has welcomed the approval for the commencement of work on a major extension at St Emer’s national school in Longford town.
Deputy Flaherty added, "There is also good news today for another Longford town school with approval confirmed for St Michael’s NS to now proceed to tender in respect of plans for three new mainstream classrooms and 3 SET rooms."
Work can now start on the construction of four new mainstream classrooms for St Emer’s National school.
Deputy Flaherty said: “These projects enable continued important investment in our local schools and are imperative for our young children’s continued education with growing numbers in our community.”
He said the progression of both projects to the next stage is most welcome and thanked his colleague, Minister Norma Foley, for her continued support and positive investment in education across Co Longford.
Looking forward, local contractor Benny Ledwith has obtained the contract for the extension at St Emer’s NS and Deputy Flaherty concluded: “It is excellent to see a highly regarded and successful local contractor in place and I would hope to see work start here now very soon.”
