Solicitor tells Longford district court 'the differences between the parties had since been resolved'

Two Edgeworthstown women were convicted of assault following an incident at a Longford town tanning salon.

Martina and Charlene Nevin, both with an address at Kilsallagh, Edgeworthstown, were both charged with committing an affray at Mega Sun, 5 Town Centre, Longford on May 15, 2023.

Charlene Nevin was charged with assaulting Celine McDonagh. Martina Nevin was charged with assaulting Marie McDonagh.

Sgt Mark Mahon told the court that on the date in question, Gardaí were called to an altercation outside the tanning studio.

He told the court that the two Nevins had started an altercation with other women.

He added that Martina had two previous convictions, while Charlene had no previous convictions.

Their solicitor, Frank Gearty, told the court that “the differences between the parties had since been resolved.”

In relation to Charlene, Mr Gearty said that she is 20 years old and has been making “all efforts to improve herself.”

“They acknowledge that their behaviour was out of order. Martina is a 44 year old mother of four. Her husband is supportive. The two families are related,” Mr Gearty added.

Mr Gearty went on to tell the court that the two women had brought €500 to court.

Judge Owens bound the two women to the peace for 12 months.
