Great excitement building in South Longford for the inaugural Éigse Peter Carberry, when a weekend of workshops, and performances will celebrate the life and times and one of Ireland's most famous pipers and Derrahaun man, Peter Carberry, who sadly passed away three years ago.

Fittingly 'Éigse' translates as 'learning' and the weekend event will build on a tradition that began in the Derrahaun family home with musicians and scholars from across the world visiting to play with and learn from the master.

On his death, friends began with an impromptu day of tuition and performing and such was the popularity, that it has now evolved into a full weekend programme of events to celebrate the life and times of one of the world's best known pipers.

Peter Carberry passed away on April 14, 2016 and in 2006 he was presented with the prestigious and coveted award of An Gradam Specialta by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCÉ). He travelled widely abroad on Comhaltas tours on one occasion accompanied President Mary Robinson on her state visit to Portugal.

The weekend programme which runs from Friday April 12 to Sunday , April 14, with a host of well-known tutors and performers will show that Ireland’s hidden heartlands truly abounds with musical heritage.
