‘Extremely bad, snowy morning’ when Longford gardaí stopped uninsured driver

Defendant told the gardaí that he had never held a driving licence
A man with a Bornacoola address appeared in Longford District Court charged with a number of driving offences.
Fabio Da Silva, of Clooncolligan, Bornacoola, was stopped by Gardai in Lisbrack, Newtownforbes, on January 10, 2024.
He was charged with failing to produce a learning permit or driving licence.
He was also charged with having no car insurance and failing to produce insurance.
The court was told that on the date in question, the defendant was stopped by gardaí at 10am in the morning. He told the gardaí that he had never held a driving licence.
His solicitor, Bríd Mimnagh, told the court that “It was an extremely bad, snowy morning. His brother had to get to work and another sibling had to get to school. The family lives in a remote area in Bornacoola. When he was stopped by gardaí, he admitted everything. He was very co-operative.”
Ms Mimnagh added that her client is hoping to get work in construction.
Judge Owens fined Mr Da Silva a total of €750.
