Lighting and signage improvements for Longford town area

Abbeycartron gets infrastructure commitment
Abbeycartron Lane will be assessed for improvement works for lighting and signage following a Longford MD motion by Cllr Seamus Butler.
The motion noted that the inadequate lighting in the Abbeycartron area also requires enhancement. “The signage on the Battery Road should be revised to the new town finger posts listing all the estates branching off Abbeycartron Lane,” Cllr Butler's motion said.
He stated: “As there are some unusual numbering systems in some estates here, there should be a rolling programme of house numbering signage like College Park and Templemichael Glebe.”
Cllr Butler noted his proposal that Abbeycartron Lane, all the way down to Brickfield, should be included in the 2024 roads programme for repairs and resurfacing, had been taken into Longford MD municipal works.
In his reply Eamon Bennett, Senior Executive Engineer, said the local authority will look at the lighting issue: “We will refer that to our Roads Design department and request an upgrade of public lighting in Abbeycartron. With regard to the signage on the Battery Road we will refer this to the active travel team to try and include the new town finger post signs listing all the estates.”
In respect to the signage proposal Mr Bennett said: “If the senior management agree to a rolling programme of house numbering signage on housing estates branching off Abbeycartron Lane then we will erect the appropriate signage.”
