Liquor licence granted for new Lidl store in county Longford

Longford County Council granted planning permission for the new Lidl store in Ballymahon last year
Supermarket chain Lidl has been granted a declaratory order for an intoxicating liquor licence in respect of its new store in Ballymahon.
Longford County Council granted planning permission earlier on December 4 last year for the project with 20 conditions attached.
The new discount foodstore supermarket with ancillary off-licence sales will be constructed at Main Street/Church View backlands in Ballymahon, including the rear of the former St Matthew's National School, Nally Tyres/Circle K, and adjoining lands.
The The new store, which will deliver up to 25 full time jobs, is due to span 2,291 square metres in gross floor space premises with a net retail sales area of 1,489 square metres.
Brian Smyth, a Regional Property Director with Lidl addressed Judge Bernadette Owens.
He said it would take around eight months to build the supermarket and 85 people will work on the project.
Mr Smyth explained they intended to apply their 'Challenge 25' concept to eliminate the sale of alcohol to underage customers.
"If a person looks under 25 we will challenge them and ask them for their ID," he added.
Mr Smyth said staff receive training on the sale of alcohol and on asking for identification.
Judge Owens decided when constructed it will be a suitable premises for the sale of alcohol.
