District Engineer David Coppinger said there would be an annual budget of just over €2 million for 2025

Granard Municipal District approved the Multi-Annual (3-year) Restoration Improvement Programme and an annual budget of over €2 million.

District Engineer David Coppinger said there would be an annual budget of €2,072,959 for this year, which was the same amount received in 2024.

There is a requirement for a three year plan that is supported by local representatives to be submitted to the Department of Transport by the end of October.

Mr Coppinger confirmed the funding would be distributed equally between the two depots in the Granard Municipal District overseen by GIS officers Sean Savage and Joe Gorman.

Mr Coppinger recommended the plan should be approved and he commended the work completed by engineers Sean Savage and Joe Gorman.

They have done a great job developing this plan," he added.

He said the regional, local primary and local secondary roads had been chosen in the plan based on the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) the standardised index for assessing the condition of roads.

The approval of the plan was proposed by Fine Gael Drumlish-based Cllr Paraic Brady who said he was pleased that the roads in North Longford were being kept to a good standard.

"I welcome the programme as it stands," he added.

Fianna Fáil Cllr David Cassidy (pictured) seconded the motion and he said he believed the plan was very fair and very thorough.

There was unanimous support with Cllr Turlough McGovern, Cllr Paraic McNamara and Cathoirleach of Granard MD, Cllr Garry Murtagh also backing the approval of the roads programme.
