Longford County Council rent review to bring in extra €200,000 in income

A rent review of all Longford County Council owned social housing will bring in a further €200,000 in increased income, it has been revealed.
The review is the first such overhaul of housing rents since April 2019.
Council chiefs said the move was being taken to offset almost €3.4m in housing maintenance next year, an increase of over €400,000 compared to last year's overall spend.
“A rent review is scheduled to commence shortly and income of €200,000 from this rent review has been included in the budget,” chief executive Paddy Mahon wrote in the council's 64 page budget to elected members last week.
“This is being used to facilitate increased expenditure on housing maintenance, which is required due to the increase in social houses in Longford and increased costs due to inflation.
Independent Cllr Gerry Warnock said the review, however, was not something for council tenant holders to be overly concerned about.
“This is not a rent increase, what is is to make sure people are paying what they should paying,” he added.
