Longford defendant ‘putting his time to good use’

A young man already serving a prison sentence received a two month custodial term for criminal damage when his case was heard at Longford District Court. Craig Connors (22) of 46 Townspark, Navan, Meath was charged with damaging property on June 4, 2021 at the DV8 retail outlet Ballymahon St, Longford.
Outlining details of the charges Sergeant Enda Daly said on the date the defendant entered the fashion store and ripped security tags from an item of clothing. The items, valued at €40, were damaged and it was not possible to re-sell them. CCTV footage of the incident was viewed by the investigating officers.
Solicitor Fiona Baxter acknowledged her client is serving a five and a half year sentence imposed seven months ago and is due for release in 2025. Ms Baxter said Mr Connors is “putting his time to good use” and undertaking his leaving certificate.
The solicitor said the defendant is an enhanced prisoner. Enhanced prisoner is a structure within the prison system where prisoners are incentivised to participate in activities to reinforce good behaviour.
Ms Baxter said Mr Connors family are standing by him and he is eager to finalise the matters before the court and move on. Judge Bernadette Owens recorded a conviction against Mr Connors and sentenced him to two months to be served concurrent with the term he is presently serving.
