Defendant “doing his best.”

A Longford town man received a suspended sentence for the possession of drugs with the intent of sale or supply at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court.

Michael O’Leary, with an address at 9 Camlin Meadows, faced three charges of possessing cannabis under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 at his address on March 29, 2021.

His solicitor, Brid Mimnagh, told the court that her client is “doing his best.”

“He is the anchor of his family,” she added.

Judge Bernadette Owens said that Mr O’Leary is at “a high risk of reoffending.”

The judge then imposed a five month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months on one charge.

The other two charges were taken into consideration.

“You have to work with the probation service,” she told Mr O’Leary.
