After a marathon Sunday of high drama, Monday will be a day of recounts with the votes cast in Ballymahon and Granard to be counted again.

The Ballymahon municipal district recount is scheduled to begin at 9.30am with the Granard municipal district recount set to start at 2pm at the count centre in Edgeworthstown.

Meanwhile, the Longford municipal district count is set to continue from 12 noon after it adjourned at 5am.

An absolutely incredible comeback by Fianna Fáil's David Cassidy which saw him pip Fine Gael's Colin Dalton by four votes; 1,071 to 1,067; to capture the final Granard seat resulted in a recount being sought by FG.

While the Ballymahon MD recount request was made by sitting councillor Gerard Farrell (Ind), who was eliminated on the fourth count. Farrell was eliminated with 627 votes, just one behind Sean Mimnagh (FF) who is on 628.
