Longford #LE24: Fianna Fáil's Marett Smith eliminated after fourth count in Granard municipal district
Fianna Fáil's Marett Smith has been eliminated after the completion of the fourth count in Granard municipal district.
Garry Murtagh (FG), Turlough McGovern (Ind) and Paraic Brady (FG) were all elected following the First Count after the trio emphatically exceeded the quota.
The 336 votes of first-time candidate Smith will now be distributed during the Fifth Count.
Colin Dalton (FG), on 953 votes, is on course to take the 4th seat and with Fianna Fáil's Susan Murphy (552 votes) likely to exit the race next, FF will be hoping that many of their votes transfer to Cassidy (661 votes) and give him a fighting chance to edge out Fine Gael's Padraig McNamara (881 votes) and cling on to FF's seat in the north of the county.
