No date for Newtownforbes road works

The start date for resurfacing works on the N4 outside Newtownforbes have not yet been determined.

Last month the local authority indicated they were reducing the speed limits on the edge of the village to facilitate the N4 Newtownforbes to Clooniher pavement rehabilitation scheme.

The speed limit is changed from 100km/h to 60 Km/h on the national primary road N4 Newtownforbes to Clooniher. The local authority said the change will be for the duration of the works, subject to a maximum period of 12 months.

At the April meeting of Longford MD, Cllr John Browne asked the executive when the works were scheduled to commence.

David McNiff, Acting Senior Executive Engineer Longford MD, replied: “The project is being coordinated by Roads Design. It runs from Newtownforbes to near Lough Forbes. Tenders have been issued, and we will have a date for its commencement shortly.”

Cllr Browne asked if the contractor had been appointed, with the MD engineer replying that the tender process was not yet finalised.
