Longford Public Participation Network (PPN) is encouraging member groups from across the county to attend their upcoming Municipal District (MD) Plenary Meetings taking place next week.

The meetings provide an important opportunity for PPN groups to hear updates on ongoing work, engage directly with key stakeholders and have their voices heard on issues affecting their communities.

Members from the Granard Municipal District are invited to attend the first MD plenary meeting on Tuesday, May 19 in Granard Library.

The Ballymahon MD meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 20 in Ballymahon Library, followed by the Longford MD meeting on Thursday, May 21 in Longford Library. Registration for all meetings will take place at 6.45pm sharp, with meetings commencing at 7pm.

Attendees will receive updates on the Longford PPN Workplan from Siobhan Cronogue, PPN Coordinator, and will also hear from guest speakers and long-time supporters of Longford PPN, Danny Lynch, Head of IT with Longford County Council, and Janine Bartley from the Longford Community Safety Partnership.

Both speakers are keen to engage directly with local communities and gather feedback from PPN members.

Speaking ahead of the meetings, Danny Lynch said “I’m really looking forward to meeting PPN members across the county and hearing directly from community groups about their experiences, challenges and ideas for the future. As more and more Longford County Council services move online, it’s vital that communities have a voice in shaping how these services are delivered and accessed. The new Digital Longford: Beyond 2030 strategy is an opportunity for people to influence how technology can better support local communities, tackle digital exclusion and improve access to services for everyone. The views and recommendations of PPN members will play an important role in shaping that vision.”

Janine Bartley also highlighted the importance of community participation in shaping future safety initiatives across the county. “I will be discussing the launch of a county-wide Community Safety Survey by the Longford Community Safety Partnership and encouraging everyone in County Longford to take part. The survey will play a key role in shaping the new County Longford Community Safety Plan for 2026–2028 and is an important step in understanding what matters most to people across the county when it comes to community safety. By PPN members sharing their views and experiences, they can help ensure that local priorities and actions reflect the real concerns of those who live, work and visit County Longford.”

Following the guest speaker presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to network and engage informally with fellow community representatives. Refreshments will be served and a raffle will take place each night.

Longford PPN is encouraging all member groups to attend their local MD plenary and take part in the discussions shaping the future of communities across County Longford.
