Longford triathletes arrive in Portugal for major competition
Longford Triathlon Club will compete in the Ironman Cascais 2026 event in Portugal tomorrow Saturday, October 17.
Members of Longford Triathlon Club are currently preparing to take on the Ironman Cascais 2026 event in Portugal, which is set to take place tomorrow Saturday, October 17.

Excitement is building within the club as the athletes make their final preparations ahead of the event.

Those taking on the Full Ironman will complete over 226 kilometres across three disciplines, namely a 3.8 km swim in Cascais Bay, a 180km bike ride through the Portuguese Riviera, Guincho Beach, Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, laps around the F1/MotoGP circuit, and a stretch toward Lisbon before returning.

They will then finish with a 42.2 km run on a 3-loop HOKA coastal marathon course running from Cascais out to Cabo Raso and back.

According to Ironman, this will require “sustained endurance under varying ocean winds.”
Today is set to be a day of light training and recovery, with members spinning out their legs and resting ahead of tomorrow’s gruelling race.
The club has encouraged supporters to send their best wishes to the group as they prepare to represent Longford on the international sporting stage.
