Longford woman fined for no insurance

A woman who thought she was insured to drive a friend's car on the day she was stopped by gardaí has been convicted and fined €300.
Tammie Delaney, 30 Millrace, Drumlish, Co Longford pleaded guilty to having no insurance following an incident at McGrath's Filling Station, Drumlish Road, Longford on March 2 this year.
Ms Delaney, who represented herself in court, was asked by Judge Bernadette Owens if she had insurance.
“I do,” she replied. “I had a friend's car on that day and I actually thought I was covered, but it turns out that I wasn't.”
The court was told how gardaí were called to the scene of a road traffic collision at McGrath's Filling Station at around 12:30pm.
Judge Owens was informed that one of the vehicles was not present at the scene and when a demand was made for Ms Delaney to produce her certificate of insurance within ten days, she failed to do so.
Upon telling Judge Owens she was not working and in receipt of disability allowance, Ms Delaney was fined €300.
In signing off the case, Judge Owens gave Ms Delaney five months to pay.
