Longford Women’s Link hosting major conference on domestic violence

Longford Women’s Link is holding a major conference on 'Responding to the Risk of Domestic Homicide in Rural Ireland' this week.
The two-day event will be held at Longford Rugby Club on Wednesday and Thursday, May 17 & 18, and will be delivered by Professor Jane Monckton Smith, a criminologist specialising in domestic homicide.
Jane is a Professor of Public Protection at the University of Gloucestershire and a former police officer.
The conference is part of the programme of the newly established Interagency Model Working Group in Longford which has seen key agencies (including An Garda Síochána, TUSLA, Courts Service and Longford Community Safety Partnership) working together to establish a model of good practice: Responding to the Risk of Domestic Homicide in Rural Ireland. The group is chaired by Longford Women’s Link (LWL).
Speaking prior to the conference, LWL CEO Tara Farrell stated that ‘the vision of LWL for many years has been to establish a robust and collaborative Interagency Model Working Group – now, thanks to the support of the Longford Community Safety Partnership and the Department of Justice, this vision has become a reality as we establish this model and we would like to thank all of the member agencies for their participation’.
