Longford's skatepark will be in place by the end of the year members of the Longford Town Municipal District authority were told at their May meeting.

Cllr Peggy Nolan asked the executive for an update on how progress was going on the amenity.

Last November Longford was granted €405,000 towards the development of a ‘Skate and Recreational Park’ on the site of the former Longford Greyhound track.

Longford Town Skatepark Committee have campaigned for the skatepark in Longford for many years.

Director of Services for Planning, Regeneration and Capital Projects, John Brannigan, responded to the query saying: “We are looking at having the works get underway in the third quarter of the year.”

Cllr Nolan asked: “So, will it be the end of the year before it's in situ?”

Mr Brannigan replied: “Yes.”
