She made her way down to Newtowncashel to hear the problems of the local people who have been left without broadband for four weeks

For the past four weeks, Newtowncashel residents have been left reeling in the wake of Storm Éowyns wrath. Many people have been left without broadband a month on from the storm leaving businesses grinding to a halt.

Many wires are still down across the area some even hitting off cars as they go by. Poles are dangling independently having broken apart.

Today, MEP Nina Carberry and former TD Damien English made their way down to listen to the issues the local people have been facing.

Councillor Skelly helped organise the visit and was in attendance alongside many people still feeling the effects of the storm but also those with differing issues they wished to raise.

“She came out to meet with some local people as regards their plight, such as broadband, water and when the power goes to basically just get a feel for the sense of neglect that is being felt in Rural Ireland,” he said.

“She heard about grant aid being sought for the community for the local community hall and further grant aid being sought to upgrade the GAA facilities.

“Then she heard from local business owners that still haven’t got broadband such as Francis Killian from Killian Engineering and Martina Beatty who runs a business from her home.”
