Final result: Longford 27- Clondalkin 10
Longford Rugby Club’s senior men got their Leinster League campaign off to a winning start yesterday, with two of the club’s youngest rising stars on hand as mini mascots.
Darragh Cox and Michael Dolan, who play with Longford Rugby Club’s U8 and U9 Minis teams, were the mini-mascots for yesterday’s Leinster League clash against Clondalkin Rugby Club in Longford’s Precision Health Park.

The mascots certainly proved to be lucky charms for the club as Longford secured a dramatic 27-10 victory.
The game demanded plenty from the Longford side, who battled through before sealing a bonus-point win with the final play of the game.
It was a determined team performance from Longford, who maintained the intensity until the very end to secure the opening victory of their Leinster League campaign.
Reflecting on the hard-fought win, head coach Glenn Baskett said afterwards, “It was hard result to get. It didn’t look like we were going to get the bonus point never mind the win, but really really impressed with the way the boys saw that out and with the way they played.”
Speaking about the preparation for next weekend’s clash in New Ross, Baskett said the aim now was to “try and get some bodies on the pitch” adding, “We lost a few today we have to check in physio and see how we’re fixed!”
Longford 1 will play away against New Ross 1 next weekend, Sunday, September 27 with kickoff at 3 pm in FBD Park.
