Retiring Newtownforbes Parish Priest Fr Ciaran McGovern raised funds for worthy causes over the years.

Newtownforbes is bidding farewell to much-loved Parish Priest Fr Ciaran McGovern as he steps down following many years of dedicated service to the parish.

Clonguish GAA was one of many who paid tribute to Fr Ciaran acknowledging his great support of both the GAA club and the wider Newtownforbes community throughout his time in the parish.

Fr McGovern, who celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his ordination in September 2024, played a hugely influential role in the Shane Brennan 5K, helping to organise and drive the event, which has become a major part of the St Stephen’s Day tradition in Newtownforbes.

He also raised a remarkable amount of money for worthy causes over the years.

Thanking him for all he has contributed to the parish and community, Clonguish GAA wished Fr Ciaran good health and every happiness in his retirement, a sentiment echoed by many.
